Disc anemones

Scientific name : Discosoma spp.


Corallimorpharia whose flattened polyps form discs of 5-10 cm diameter. They live in dense aggregations. Oral disc covered with short tentacles, sometimes branched. Highly variable colour, grey, green, pink, brown, blu, purple. They colonize very quickly any free surface (for example a dead coral), by asexual fragmentation. For sure, as most species has still to be described, we cannot give them a name.

Associated organisms
With zooxanthellae. Some species host the shrimp Pliopontonia furtiva.
