Decorator crab

Scientific name : Schizophrys aspera


Large crab with spiny carapace, long legs and claws. In particular the claws are very long and not fouled, unlike the rest of the body. Two robust spines between the eyes. Carapace lenght 10 cm.
Identified from other Majidae by the long claws with the last segment smooth and usually clean from fouling.

Associated organisms
Uses to cover itself completely with algae, other marine organisms, detritus.


Habitat: Back reef, Coastal bay, Lagoon

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
