Decorator crab

Scientific name : Majidae sp. 3


Small decorator crabs, with carapace long and usually diagonally inclined, with rostrum upward. Carapace completely covered with various organisms. Lenght 2 cm.
Likely this page includes the description of more than one species, that we did not describe in details, thinking more about how the diver sees them (completely hidden by fouling).

Associated organisms
They use to cover themselves, even completely, with sessile
benthic organisms, kept alive, attached to the herd hair on the crustacean exoskeleton. Usually seaweeds, sponges, hydroids, ascidians are present.
Normally found on other organisms, as seaweeds, sponges, hard corals.


Habitat: Back reef, Deep reef, Reef external slope, Reef front

Distribution: North Sulawesi
