Decorator crab

Scientific name : Camposcia retusa


The typical decorator crab, always completely covered on carapace and legs with small pieces of sponge and other organisms, of different colours. Usually only the black, tear shaped eyes can be seen. Short double ended rostrum, short claws, long legs. Carapace lenght 3 cm.
Identified among majidae family due to the tear shaped eye and to the typical decoration, made up with many sponge pieces, carefully arranged.

Associated organisms
With many different sponge species used to cover itself.


Habitat: Back reef, Coastal bay, Lagoon, Sand

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific
