Decorator crab

Scientific name : Achaeus sp.


Oval body, long walking legs, short claws. Whitish or beige colour. Body and legs bristly, often covered with hydroids or algae for camouflage. Carapace lenght 2 cm. Often encountered in bay and lagoon. Active at night Similar to Achaeus japonicus, but whitout reddish hair and leg bands. Also larger. Similar also to Achaeus spinosus, the latter being larger and with thinner legs. Fantastic camouflage with filamentous algae cover.

Associated organisms
Often covered with Hydrozoa or Algae, making it almost invisible.
