Crinoid cuttlefish

Scientific name : Sepia sp.


Small undescribed species, even if common in North Sulawesi seas. Variable colour pattern, often a row of black and white spots along the inner part of tentacles is shown, together with longitudinal lateral white lines and 2 eye spots (false eye) on the back. Body 4 cm. Distinguished from Sepia bandensis by the missing longitudinal lines on the back and the missing blue spots at the fin basis.

Associated organisms
Often looking for shelter among the crinoids arms, but also close to starfishes or gorgonians.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Deep reef, Lagoon, Reef external slope, Sand

Distribution: North Sulawesi
