Cornet fishes are often confused with trumpet fishes. They have very elongate shape, grey silvery colour, filament tail , often the move in schools next to the bottom.
Very elongate fishes. Cylindrical body, slightly wider than deep. Tubular snout with terminal mouth.
Dorsal and anal fins, symmetrical, are close to the tail, divided in two lobes and a long central filament.
They swim with body undulations, propulsion is given mainly by the caudal fin.
Common in many environments: lagoon, bay, reef front. They feed on small fish.
Possible confusion with trumpet fishes (aulostomidae), that are shorter, laterally compressed, and without tail filament.
Habitat:
Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef front
