Corkscrew tentacle sea anemone

Scientific name : Macrodactyla doreensis


Large anemone (diameter up to 50 cm), with few, long tentacles (18 cm). Brown, green or purplish tentacles and oral disc. The column, buried in the sand, is brownish with large, non adhaesive, oval white verrucae. If disturbed, often.
On sandy bottoms, confusion is possible with Heteractis aurora, Heteractis crispa and Heteractis malu. Compared with the first, M. doreensis has tentacles whit no bulges, compared with the second has less tentacles, compared with the third has longer tentacles.

Associated organisms
With zooxanthellae and with anemone fishes, typically Amphiprion clarkii, Amphiprion perideraion and Amphiprion polymnus. Observed in association with Dascyllus trimaculatus and with shrimps like Periclimenes holthuisi.
