Coral razor fish
Scientific name : Aeoliscus strigatus
Compressed, very thin body, with elongate snout. Silvery colour, (yellow-greenish when the animal lives close to sea grasses) with longitudinal black-brownish band. The dorsal fin has a main spine very high and hinged, with a white joint clearly visible in the middle. Maximum lenght 14 cm.
Very similar to Centriscus scutatus, also in the scientific literature there is probably confusion. The difference among the 2 genera is in the long dorsal spine. This spine is rigid in Centriscus, hinged in Aeoliscus. Also the favourite environment is partly different, Centriscus scutatus is met more likely in muddy environments.
Associated organisms It can be found associated with hard or soft corals, gorgonians, black corals, Diadema sea urchins and seagrasses.
Habitat:
Back reef, Lagoon
Distribution:
Indo-West Pacific
