Common marble shrimp

Scientific name : Saron marmoratus

Shrimp with a large, long, upward rostrum, and with typical hair tufts (cirri) starting from the rostrum and on the back. Other cirri tufts below the abdomen and on the claws (in the male - below - longer than in the female).
Variable colour, with a pattern of large round spots of different tones of brown, reddish, green, some white speckled. Legs and claws have a transverse light and dark brown bands. 4 cm. Many undescribed Saron species still exist, all very similar. The colour patter distinguish Saron marmoratus from Saron sp.; Saron neglectus is even smaller and less hairy.
Different colour variations exist, all with the typical S. marmoratus colour pattern.

Associated organisms
We observed often this species moving around the diadema sea urchins, without jumping on the urchin but ready to withdraw amongst the spines in case of danger. A male above.
