Commensal shrimp
Scientific name : Hamopontonia corallicola
Commensal shrimp living in association with Heliofungia or Goniopora hard corals. Transparent body with 2 large white spots, on carapace and abdomen, mimicking the tentacle tips of Heliofungia. Claws and legs covered with white and red spots. 2,5 cm.
Generically similar to some Periclimenes spp., the 2 large white spots are a good diagnostic.
Associated organisms Always associated with hard corals: Heliofungia spp. (in our photos) or Goniopora spp. Its colour pattern is cryptic on Heliofungia spp.
