Comet sea star
Scientific name : Linckia multifora
Small sea star with 5 arms, often with different lenght. Typical colour pattern mottled in blue, red, white, yellow. 12 cm diameter. Encountered along the back reef, reef front and external reef. Easy to identify due to the colour pattern. This is a species with a great regenerating power, often a new specimen can grow from the fragment of an arm. In the photo a new star regenerating from an arm, cut from the "mother" star.
Associated organisms It can host the parasitic gastropod Thyca crystallina.
