Comber

Scientific name : Serranus cabrilla


A quite visible fish (maximum length: 40,0 cm), this serranid shows an elongated body, with a very peculiar coloration: the dorsal part of the body is brown-reddish with lighter vertical bars, while the ventral part is ivory with horizontal red stripes.
It can be seen on shelves and rocky slopes, Posidonia beds and mud and sand bottoms. It feeds on fish, cephalopds and crustaceans.


Habitat: Rock, Seagrass beds

Distribution: East Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea
