Coelogorgia
Scientific name : Coelogorgia
Usually considered a gorgonian, although belonging to the family Clavulariidae, together with encrusting soft corals. Colony formed by an encrusting stolon, from which main strong stems raise, in turn branching with a planar or spiral pattern. The ensemble looks like a bush, up to 1 m tall. Small, white, non-retractile polyps. White or cream colour. Similar to the genera Carijoa and Paratelesto. The thick, prominent main branches are typical of Coelogorgia.
Associated organisms With unicellular zooxanthellae.
