Clear fin lion fish

Scientific name : Pterois radiata

Lion fish with long, white, pectoral fin rays, joining only at the basis through a membrane. The body has dark red broad bands alternating with thin white lines. Two horizontal lines on the tail pedoncle. Prominent supraorbital tentacles. 24 cm. Often resting under overhangs or in caves. Uncommon. It feeds mostly on crustaceans.
This is the only Pterois species with horizontal lines on the tail pedoncle. The are a useful diagnostic. Also the colour is different from Pterois antennata, that has blue spots on the pectoral fin and narrower red bands. Pterois volitans has pectoral fin with a deeply incised membrane reaching the tip of the rays.
