Clark's anemone fish

Scientific name : Amphiprion clarkii

Orange colour, with 3 white bands, yellow tail and a variable amount of black, only on the back or extended to cover completely the orange part. Different colour variations are found in different geographical areas. In our area 2 colour variations exist, whose colour is determined by the symbiont anemone: specimens associated with Stichodactyla mertensii or with Heteractis aurora are completely black with the exceptions of the white bands, the snout (pale pink) and the tail. 14 cm.

In our area 2 other species with 3 bands exist: Amphiprion ocellaris and Premnas biaculeatus. Both of them have no black back.
Black specimens can be confused with Amphiprion polymnus, that has the median bar turning backward in the upper part, and black tail with white edge.

Associated organisms
Obligate association with sea anemones of different species: Cryptodendrum adhaesivum, Entacmaea quadricolor, Heteractis aurora, Heteractis crispa, Heteractis magnifica, Heteractis malu, Macrodactyla doreensis, Stichodactyla gigantea, Stichodactyla haddoni, Stichodactyla mertensii. In practice it can establish an association with any anemone species able to accept anemone fishes living in the Indo-Pacific.
