Bulb tentacle sea anemone
Scientific name : Entacmaea quadricolor
Large anemone (40 cm diameter), with long tentacles (10 cm), each with a typical bulb toward the end (not always present). The equator of the bulb can be white. Colour brown or green, pink or blue tentacles' tips, all the tentacles can show sometimes a reddish fluorescent coloration. Smooth column, usually not observed (because deeply inserted into crevices). When the tentacles are bulb shaped, it can not be confused. With smooth tentacles confusion is possible with other large anemones like Heteractis magnifica or Macrodactyla doreensis. The former has usually exposed column, the second lives on sandy bottoms.
Associated organisms This is a species associated with zooxanthellae. Obligate symbiosis with some anemone fish species, in our area Premnas biaculeatus, Amphiprion clarkii, Amphiprion melanopus (mainly associated with the colonial form). Occasionally with Dascyllus trimaculatus.
