Brown sea squirt

Scientific name : Herdmania momus

Large solitary ascidian (10 cm), with a rough tunic ofter covered with epibiotic organisms. Typical the trumpet shape and the colour in white and brown sectors of the siphons. Common along the external reef, often as epibiotic of other organisms (here a gorgonian), covered in its turn with epibiotic species. Common also on shipwrecks. The trumpet like shape of siphons is typical, and allows identification from other fouled species like Polycarpa pigmentata. It is a typical fouling species, fastly growing on smooth surfaces (like a ship's hull). For this reason its distribution is very wide.

Associated organisms
With gorgonians as epibiotic species, with many sessile species covering it (sponges, ascidians, bryozoans, hydroids).
