Blue star
Scientific name : Linckia laevigata
Large sea star, very common in our area. 5 cylindrical arms with rounded tip, blue or light blue colour, more seldom green, pink or yellow. Diameter 30 cm.
Common along reef front and external reef. It feeds on sessile invertebrates and dead organisms.
Apart the blue colour, this species can be distinguished from Linkia purpurea and Linkia guildingi by the shape more thick (shorter arms with rounded blunt tip).
Associated organisms Often it hosts the commensal shrimp Periclimenes soror or the parassite gastropod Thyca crystallina.
