Blue girdled angel fish

Scientific name : Pomacanthus navarchus


Medium size angel fish (28 cm), the colour pattern is a yellow and blue reticule in the central part, with a large U shaped blue band decorating the head and the back part. The eyes area is blue. Juveniles are black with vertical blue and white lines, orange back. The closest species is Pomacanthus xanthometopon, that can generate a hybrid. The yellow mask is a diagnostic character in the latter. Juveniles are identified by the orange back.

Associated organisms
Encountered normally in sponge rich areas, solitary or in pairs.


Habitat: Reef external slope

Distribution: Indonesia, Western Pacific
