Blue face angel fish

Scientific name : Pomacanthus xanthometopon


Large angel fish (38 cm), the colour pattern is a yellow and blue reticule. In the head, always with a reticulated pattern, the blue is predominating. Yellow mask over the eyes, false eye on the dorsal fin. Juveniles black with vertical blue and white lines. The closest species is Pomacanthus navarchus, that can generate a hybrid. The yellow mask is a diagnostic character. Juveniles are similar to Pomacanthus sexstriatus, but distinguished due to the lower dorsal and anal fins.

In sponge rich environments.
