Blue axil chromis

Scientific name : Chromis caudalis


Body dark brown or black, white tail and caudal peduncle. The back part of dorsal and anal fins, transparent, gives to the fins a spiky look. Blue spot at the armpit of the pectoral fin. 10 cm. It lives in small shoals along the external reef and the deep reef, often at the entrance of small caves. A Plankton feeder. Other Chromis species share the same colour pattern, dark with white tail (Chromis xanthura, Chromis margaritifer). C. caudalis is the only Chromis with blue axil.
