Black chromis

Scientific name : Chromis xanthura


In our area it is dark grey with white tail. Black vertical line on the gill operculum. 15 cm. It lives in shoals, feeding on Plankton, along external reef and deep reef. Other Chromis species share the same colour pattern, dark with white tail (Chromis margaritifer, Chromis caudalis). C. xanthura is the larger and lighter, especially with regard to the head colour.


Habitat: Deep reef, Reef external slope

Distribution: Western Pacific
