Black butterflyfish

Scientific name : Chaetodon flavirostris


About 20,0 cm long, this fish shows a dark, almost black background color, with a yellow-orange rim on the dorsal, caudal and pelvic fins. Its snout is yellow, with a white tip and a black spot on its forehead.
It can be found in coral-rich and algae covered rocky areas, in lagoons and seaward reefs, including estuarine areas. It can be usually seen paired.
It's omnivorous, and feeds on algae, corals and small invertebrates. It's oviparous, and forms pairs during breeding.
Rearing this species in captivity can be hard.
