Black axil chromis

Scientific name : Chromis atripectoralis

Oval shape, uniform blue green colour, with the only exception of a small black spot at the armpit of pectoral fin. 11 cm. It is a Plankton feeder living in large shoals. Often associated with branching Acropora colonies, if threatened they can hide amongst the branches. Chromis viridis is almost undistinguishable, only slightly smaller and it lacks the black spot at the pectoral fin axil. It is extremely difficult to take the 2 species apart: the black spot can be very small, apart the colour of fins during mating, there can be apparently no difference.
