Beautiful shrimp
Scientific name : Periclimenes venustus
Beautiful transparent shrimp, with highly variable colour pattern, also depending on the host. Claws can have a scattered blue and white punctuation (as legs), or can have the white points concentrated along the segments, and blue bands on the joints. White pots with blue-purple edge are along the abdomen. On the abdomen hump there is a large white spot, that can fade into pink at the center, or can have a pink network. Other white spots can be on the carapace. 2,5 cm. Especially in the colour form with white and blue banded legs, it can be aesily confused with Periclimenes sarasvati or Periclimenes holthuisi. Both species have a V shaped white spot on the abdomen hump, that has purple edge in P. sarasvati, brown edge in P. holthuisi. P. venustus' spot is larger, rounded, and with no coloured edges.
Associated organisms Associated with different species of sea anemones (often with Phyllodiscus semoni, Actinodendron spp.) and hard corals (families caryophyllidae and fungiidae). Probably it can act as a cleaner.
