Beaded sea anemone

Scientific name : Heteractis aurora


Medium size anemone, (diameter 30 cm), with convoluted oral disc. Short tentacles (4-6 cm), packed at the edge and very rare toward the middle of oral disc, with swellings at intervals giving the appearence of a stgring of beads. Grey, greenish or brown colour, often with radial lines on the oral disc. Adhaesive verrucae on the column. On sandy bottoms also Heteractis malu, Heteractis crispa e Macrodactyla doreensis can be encountered. H. aurora is clearly identified by the tentacles shape.

Associated organisms
With symbiotic zooxanthellae and with few anemone fishes: in our area Amphiprion clarkii. Occasionally with Dascyllus trimaculatus.


Habitat: Lagoon, Sand

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
