Banggai cardinalfish
Scientific name : Pterapogon kauderni
Common in silty sand bottoms with seagrass. Associated with long-spined sea urchins Diadema setosum or sea anemones, sharing the habitat with other anemonefish. The fish retreat among the spines when threatened.
Feed on small benthic and planktonic crustaceans at night.
Male incubates the eggs until hatching; the large egg about 2.5 mm in diameter, with the young remaining within the mouth cavity for undetermined period after hatching. Newly hatched larvae have no planktonic period.
Originary from the Banggai area, now is widespread in other areas for the aquarium trade.
Recently added to the IUCN red list for endangered species.
