Asteronotus sp.
Scientific name : Asteronotus sp.
Large nudibranch, hard and leathery, flattened, dark red colour. 24 cm.
Normally found in bay, on sandy bottoms. Nocturnal habits. Easy to identify from Asteronotus cespitosus by colour and texture (no tubercles).
At a first sight, due to the dimension, it coul be misidentified as a Spanish dancer Hexabranchus sanguineus. There are obvious differences: flattened shape, leathery mantle, also the slow movements.
Associated organisms We have observed on its back the commensal shrimp Periclimenes imperator.
