Wonderpus
Scientific name : Octopus sp. 5
Spectacular, small, long armed octopus. Brown reddish colour with white markings on body and tentacles, always visible and bright. Stalked eyes, each with a short appendage (like a small horm) above . Body 3 cm, tentacles 20 cm.
Encountered on sandy bottoms, in bay and lagoon. Active during the daytime, often it looks for shelter under the sand, entering other animals burrows.
Often it is confused with the mimic octopus (Octopus sp. 4). They are identified by the white stripes (that in Octopus sp. 5 follow a more fixed pattern) and for the body surface (smoother in Octopus sp. 5).
This is one of the more spectacular octopuses, for colour and behaviour (hence the common name). The tentacles from cylindrical can become expanded, forming an umbrella enlarged on the bottom (on the preys). According to some authors, the flamboyant colour pattern could be a warning colour, to identify a dangerous animal (so far this has not been demonstrated).

Coastal bay, Lagoon, Mud, Sand
