Sargassum fish
Scientific name : Histrio histrio
Small, brown coloured Antennariidae, with stripes and spots, many skin appendages. 14 cm. It is an open sea species, drifting at the surface together with floating algal tufts (Sargassum sp.). It does not swim, but grabs on the Algae drifting passively with the currents, feeding on the small fishes associated with those algal masses.
Not very different from the true frog fishes (Antennarius), it is distinguished primarily by the particular environment.
It can escape from underwater predators leaving the water and jumping on the floating seaweeds.
