Pinnate bat fish

Scientific name : Platax pinnatus

Rounded compressed body, symmetrical dorsal and anal fins. Silver colour with vertical bands, more or less dark. Fins edges fading into a golden-yellow colour. Concave snout profile (prominent lips). 60 cm.
Juveniles with very elongated dorsal and anal fins, dark colour (almost black), orange edge. Compared with Platax teira, Platax orbicularis and Platax boersi, P. pinnatus has clearly concave snout profile. The juveniles are usually said to mimic a toxic flatworm (see for ex. Pseudobiceros uniarborensis) due to the colour pattern.
