Halimeda ghost pipefish

Scientific name : Solenostomus sp.


Small ghost pipe fish (maximum 6 cm), very long snout, short caudal fin, long tail peduncle.
The main differences, compared with Solenostomus cyanopterus, are the shorter tail and the longer peduncle.

Associated organisms
Often seen next to seaweeds. When it settles close to the green algae Halimeda, it is brilliant green. It takes a red or brown colour close to coralline red algae.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef external slope

Distribution: Indo-Pacific
