Broad club cuttlefish
Scientific name : Sepia latimanus
Large cuttlefish, common on reef environments. Highly variable colour pattern, often with scattered white and brown small spots. Grossa seppia, comune sul reef. Eye with yellow edge. The 2 long hunting tentacles have a large terminal expansion. Capable of extremely quick colour changes. Body 50 cm. Active during the day, it hunts crustaceans.
It is difficult to identify Sepia species, mostly due to the variable colour. Young specimens distinguished from the other large Sepia (like Sepia aculeata) by the shape of the long tentacles, usually hidden. Practically it is the more common large cuttlefish on reef environments.
Associated organisms Eggs are laid amongst branching hard corals.
