Acanthogorgia
Scientific name : Acanthogorgia
Gorgonian with planar reticulated branches, up to 75 cm tall. Yellow or red colour, the coenenchyme between the polyps is so thin that the black skeleton can be seen through. Non retractile polyps that, when contracted, look like prominent buds. The thin branches and the prominent contracted polyps are a good diagnostic. Acalycigorgia is a synonym.
Associated organisms This is the typical host of the pygmy seahorse Hippocampus denise.
