Black spot angel fish

Scientific name : Genicanthus melanospilos


Medium size angel fish (18 cm), elongated, tail ending in two filaments. The male has a zebra like colour pattern, black and white, with a black spot on the lower side of the chest. The female is white with a golden shading on the back, tail with two black stripes.
In small aggregations swimming close to the bottom, along the deep reef, especially along slopes with sandy areas or at the reef basis. It feeds on Plankton. Other Genicanthus have a zebra pattern. G. caudovitattus, distinguished by a black blotch on the dorsal fin, lives in the Indian Ocean. The females resembles generically to a pomacentrid, it is distinguished by the opercular spine.
