Sepia aculeata-Needle cuttlefish

Needle cuttlefish

Scientific name : Sepia aculeata

This cuttlefish is charachterized by 3 markings on the back, particularly by a ring of white spots in he back's middle. Body 23 cm. It is difficult to identify the Sepia species, aminly due to their variable colour. It is necessary to pay attention to details, in this case the white spots on the back are diagnostic, especially versus Sepia latimanus, the other large species in our area. Other diagnostics for Sepia aculeata are the small suckers and a deep groove in the 4th left tentacle of the male, and a spine on the back part of cuttlebone.
