Bigfin reef squid

Scientific name : Sepioteuthis lessoniana


Large squid, with fins long as the body. Brown colour on the back, with white spots and stripes, variously shaped. Young specimens are usually more iridescent.
Tentacles are curled upward, in a typical posture. Body up to 36 cm.
Squids are usually open sea animals. This species likes to approach the reef, especially at night, for hunting close to reef front and in lagoon. The above specimen has just captured a cardinal fish. Easily identified from other squids, due to the long fins.

Associated organisms
Unknnown. Eggs are left stuck to any hard objects.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Reef, Sand
