Scientific name : Fromia nodosa


Small sea star with 5 flattened arms, dark red colour with cream or yellow plates. A medial row of more prominent plates on each arm is characteristic of the species. 10 cm diameter.
Encountered in back reef and reef front.
Different Fromia species are identified by the plates on the dirsal side. Fromia monilis has larger tubercles at the margins, smaller in the center of the arms; Fromia nodosa is similar but with a central row of large tubercles on each arm; Fromia indica has plates covering all the surface, Fromia milleporella has no plates.
