Blotched fantail ray

Scientific name : Taeniura meyeni


A large ray that can reach 3 metres in diameter.
The dorsal surface is grey, with black and white blotches. A large central "fold" can be seen extending to the tail.
It feeds on fish, crustaceans and bivalves, which it finds on the bottom. This is an ovoviviparous species. It isn't aggressive, but if threatened might use the sharp stinger on its tail.
During reproduction, many males surrond the female.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef, Sand, Seagrass beds

Distribution: Indo-Pacific, Red sea
