Zebra bat fish

Scientific name : Platax batavianus


Oval, compressed body, symmetrical dorsal and anal fins. Silver colour with vertical bands, more or less dark. Obvious hump on the brow. 50 cm.
Juveniles with long dorsal and anal fins, black and white zebra colour pattern. Adults are distinguished from all the other Platax species by the elongated shape.

Associated organisms
Juveniles have been observed close to crinoids, but also to other benthic organisms like sponges.


Habitat: Coastal bay, Lagoon, Reef external slope

Distribution: Western Pacific
